Our Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Our Principles

  1. Demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ.
  2. Focus on shelter.
  3. Advocate for affordable housing.
  4. Promote dignity and hope.
  5. Support sustainable and transformative development.

International

Founded in Americus, Georgia, USA, in 1976, Habitat for Humanity today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate and repair more than 1,000,000 decent, affordable houses sheltering more than 4 million people worldwide.

Abilene

Habitat for Humanity Abilene, Inc is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. It was established in 1990 and has built or rehabbed over 175 homes, helping more than 200 adults and 400 children.

How We Work

All Are Welcome

Habitat for Humanity Abilene has an open-door policy. Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

Our Process

Habitat for Humanity Abilene builds affordable homes, relying on community donations and volunteer support. Selected families are required to perform “sweat equity” as part of their commitment. They purchase Habitat houses at a discounted cost, usually with a 0% interest mortgage. This saves our homeowners tens of thousands of dollars over the duration of their mortgage. With their monthly mortgage payments our homeowners are “paying it forward” to our future homeowners, as their principal payments help us build more Habitat homes in Abilene.

Non-Proselytizing

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity Abilene does not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Habitat for Humanity partners with people in our local community to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.
